"Change is a part of life, so embrace it."

Why did you choose this field of work/job?

I developed an interest in Human Resources early in my career. My first administration job was in recruitment as a school-based trainee with the Department of Health. After successfully completing the traineeship I enrolled in a Bachelor of Business and decided to major in Human Resource Management. Fortunately, my workplace was supportive of me pursuing further education opportunities and supported me to complete this course through the Study and Research Assistance Scheme (SARAS). The opportunity to gain hands on industry experience while completing a formal qualification was priceless.

What tasks does your job include? What do you love about your job the most?

My job involves coordinating the immigration and registration processes for the International Medical Workforce at Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Services (CHQ HHS). I also assist the team with annual onboarding and recruitment activities. The best thing about my job is that it allows me to have a positive impact on the health outcomes for paediatric patients throughout Queensland.

What was your study journey to get this job?

I completed a Certificate III in Business Administration in conjunction with a school-based traineeship with Queensland Health. I then completed a Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management Extension) part-time while working full-time with Queensland Health. I have also recently completed further post-graduate qualifications which was also supported by my workplace.

What are your future plans for work and study?

I am committed to a career in the public sector and a journey of lifelong learning.

What is one thing that you would love to share with people considering this career?

Always go with the choice that scares you the most, because that’s the one that will help you grow. Also, embrace change – it is a part of life.
