A paramedic is a registered health professional who provides front-line out of hospital care, medical retrieval and health related transport for sick and injured people in emergency and non-emergency settings.

Paramedics work collaboratively with the broader Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) organisation and other health care and emergency services to provide quality, patient centred care to the Queensland community.

A career in paramedicine will be one of lifelong learning, both on the job and in areas such as further study.

There are two entry pathways for Paramedics to join the QAS:

  • Graduate Paramedic Program: For those who have up to two years’ working experience, even if a graduate program has been completed.
  • Qualified Paramedic: For those who have had more than two years’ working experience, practicing at a level equivalent to an Advanced Care Paramedic II (ACPII), within an emergency care setting.
