Role Description:

Public Health Officers undertake a wide range of activities and responsibilities to improve and maintain the health of communities and populations. Public health officers may:
- collect, analyse and use data to do population-level health and service planning
- work with communities, health professionals and other groups to look at public health challenges and solutions
- do research to develop and review public health and other policies and regulations that impact on people’s health.
Public Health Officers work across a range of public and population health services including vaccination programs, mental health and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health programs.

Public Health Officers might work in a state or federal government health department or health service, a community health service, not-for-profit organisations or health advocacy groups.

As a Public Health Officer you need to be motivated and interested in working with people, communities, other health professionals and communities to improve and maintain health. You’ll need to be practical and a logical thinker, with excellent problem solving and communications skills, including report writing.
