Role Description:

  • Environmental Health Technicians undertake a range of routine technical services to support environmental health officers and public health services, including:

    • collecting and preparing samples for testing
    • conducting tests in a field environment
    • assisting in the response to public health hazards and incidents, including disease and food borne illness outbreaks and other environmental health incidents as part of an environmental health or public health unit
    • checking and maintaining equipment and supplies
    • pest/ vector control activities including inspections, monitoring and pest-spraying and control
    • prepare reports to support environmental health projects, policies and compliance programs.

Where you might work:

  • Environmental Health Technicians may be employed by local councils or public health services.

Personal attributes:

  • Environmental Health Technicians need to be a practical problem solver and able to work in a team and on your own. You need good time management and organisational skills. You’ll also need great communication skills to work with a diverse range of people. You should be interested in science and also like working outdoors a lot of the time.

Salary:
