The Certificate III in Population Health will give you the knowledge and skills to start a career in public and population health, where you’ll work to improve and maintain the health of whole populations.
You’ll learn how to work with diverse people and in a population health context to prevent disease and promote health. You’ll contribute to project planning in population health and learn how to work with communities to identify their own health needs. There are many electives to choose from, including how to use information about nutrition and diet, empowering people with a disability and how to work with people with mental illness.
Some organisations might offer you employment as a public health or health promotion trainee if you have completed a Certificate III qualification, depending on your capability and the units you have completed. Talk to employers in your local area, like local councils, community health services, patient and health advocacy groups and local primary health networks (PHNs) to see what opportunities for training and employment might be offered.
Visit www.skillsgateway.training.qld.gov.au and talk to your teachers, VET coordinator, guidance officer and career advisor for more information on what’s available at your school because you might be able to do this course during Year 10, 11 or 12.
