The Certificate III in Laboratory Skills will give you knowledge and the practical skills to work in health sciences in a laboratory or out in the field collecting samples and performing tests.
You’ll learn about how to work safely in a laboratory and out in the field recording data, collecting and handling water, food and mosquito samples, and performing basic tests. There are many electives directly related to environmental health, including preparing samples for testing and examining them under a microscope.
Some organisations might offer you employment as an environmental health technician if you have completed a Certificate III qualification, depending on your capability and the units you have completed. Talk to employers in your local area, like local councils and health services to see what opportunities for training and employment might be offered.
Visit www.skillsgateway.training.qld.gov.au and talk to your teachers, VET coordinator, guidance officer and career advisor for more information on what’s available at your school because you might be able to do this course during Year 10, 11 or 12.
