Bachelor of Public Health and/or Health Promotion

Bachelor degrees in Public Health and Health Promotion can be studied at university, either separately or sometimes as combined degrees. You’ll gain a deep understanding of the biological, social, cultural, economic and physical factors that underpin the health of a community and society.

You’ll develop practical and professional knowledge and skills to plan, implement and measure the success of policies and programs to improve the health and wellbeing of populations. As part of your degree in public health, you may choose to focus on specific areas, such as health promotion, public health and social policy, health data and epidemiology, research, health economics, disease prevention and health management.

Many people with degrees in public health or health promotion work in the government, but you may also work in community health organisations or even international health agencies.

You may be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place, which means the Australian government pays for part of your course costs. Visit https://www.studyassist.gov.au/help-loans/commonwealth-supported-places-csps for more information on Commonwealth Supported Places.

University qualifications in public health support a range of flexible career pathways. Some people may choose to study public health before moving on to study medicine or higher-level degrees in epidemiology or economics. Some universities may also allow you to study another degree at the same time, like nursing or another health profession.

Talk to a career advisor or your teachers or guidance officer for more information on whether this course might be suitable based on your education and/or workplace experience.
