Bachelor of Health Sciences

Bachelor degrees in Health Sciences (sometimes called applied science or just science) can be studied at university, with the option to focus on a range of areas in health, including environmental health, public health or medical entomology (the study of insects and their impact on health).

During the Bachelor of Health Sciences, you’ll get an introduction to microbiology, biostatistics and epidemiology, public health and preventive health.

If you focus on public health as your major, you’ll learn about the role of human behaviour in disease and illness, and understand how to prevent disease and promote health and wellbeing. You’ll develop practical and professional knowledge and skills to design and deliver health services and programs and develop health policy to promote population health, and prevent disease and disability.

People with degrees in health science may work in a range of areas, such as the government, community health organisations or even international health agencies.

You may be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place, which means the Australian government pays for part of your course costs. Visit https://www.studyassist.gov.au/help-loans/commonwealth-supported-places-csps for more information on Commonwealth Supported Places.
